2019 Annual Report 5  COLLEGE, CAREER & SCHOLARSHIPS SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL PHYSICAL EDUCATION & SPORTS Friends of Cachagua Children’s Center The children of Cachagua get a place to play: A long-awaited, 35,000-square-foot, multipurpose athletic field opened after a sustained effort by the community. Students from Cachagua Children’s Center, as well as the YMCA, have loved having a regulation-sized, level playing field that will last for years to come. Monterey County Rape Crisis Center Monterey County Rape Crisis Center’s goal is to prevent abuse and exploitation in Monterey County. Their workshops on personal safety and child abuse prevention teach over 8,000 children annually. Children learn that they have the right to be respected, to recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations, and to know how to ask for help if they, or someone they know, is being abused. The Scholarship Academy, the signature program of Pebble Beach Company Foundation, is featured on pages 7 – 9. MUSIC & THE ARTS Youth Orchestra Salinas Youth Orchestra Salinas (YOSAL) has been transforming the lives of Salinas youth for over 10 years – tuition free. Founded with the goal of fulfilling the need for music education and affecting change in East Salinas, YOSAL began with just 40 students and has grown to serve hundreds of Salinas youth in 35 schools throughout the city. The skills acquired from the focused instruction students receive is reflected in improved math and language skills, better communication, and a higher graduation rate. Changing lives through music….
