Meet Kalila McPherson College — Phil Hill Scholar Alumna Career Dream: My goal is to get into vintage racing. I would also love to assist collectors with their archives. I enjoy research, writing and piecing things together to tell a story. It’s a window to peer into another era and I find it fascinating. Why restorative automotive? I got into the automotive field as a young adult — first with pin-striping and then working in repair shops. I was taking classes at community college and a teacher told me about the McPherson program. I ended up really enjoying the hands-on aspect and learning more about all kinds of cars. What has this scholarship meant to you? This scholarship has opened so many opportunities for me and things have progressed in a linear and organic fashion. I would not have ever imagined I would be in this part of the automotive world. Profession: Archivist & Historian at a private collection in Bedford Hill, NY – D.A.D. Garage, a museum for the automobiles acquired by Ralph Lauren during his lifetime. Unsure what to name the museum, he decided on using the names of his three children: David, Andrew and Dylan. In 2009, the Foundation established The Phil Hill Scholarships to honor the memory of Phil Hill, America’s first Formula One driving champion and a longtime participant and friend of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
