Pebble Beach Company Foundation 2022 Annual Report

In Memory of Mark Verbonich 1945 - 2022 Mark began his 38-year career with Pebble Beach Company in 1975 as head of both Community Affairs and Pebble Beach Company Foundation. His commitment and dedication to the community over the years prompted many to refer to him as the “Mayor of Pebble Beach.” From the Company’s standpoint, his greatest legacy is establishing Pebble Beach Company Foundation and guiding it for years. Due to his leadership, the Foundation now has more than $25 million in assets and distributes close to $1.5 million annually to over 90 youth education programs around Monterey County. Mark also established the Pebble Beach Company Foundation scholarship program which provides financial aid to deserving children of Company employees as they head off to college. The scholarship program is the signature program of the Foundation and a highly valued employee benefit. To date, 160 students have been awarded a total of $1.8 million. His wife, Barbara, and their three daughters were an important part of his career. Mark and his family embodied the cherished Pebble Beach Company value “Respect Our Neighbor,” which stresses the importance of working with others to constantly improve our communities and share our success with those less fortunate. They regularly volunteered their time with Meals on Wheels deliveries, raised guide dogs and were active in community theater. Mark will be greatly missed by the Foundation, Pebble Beach Company and the community. — RITA PIERSON, 40-YEAR EDUCATOR Every child deserves a champion: An adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists they become the best they can possibly be.
