Kalila Haddad, a 2011 recipient of the Pebble Beach Phil Hill Scholarship, has carved out a unique role in the automotive world as the lead archivist for the prestigious Ralph Lauren car collection. Growing up in a classic car-loving family in Kansas City, Haddad was fascinated by both vintage vehicles and history from a young age. Her early pursuits ranged from pinstriping at car shows to studying industrial welding and automotive technology. But it wasn’t until she arrived at McPherson College — home to the nation’s only four-year automotive restoration degree — that she found a place where her wide-ranging interests could truly come together. A pivotal summer internship at The Revs Institute sparked her passion for archival research and automotive documentation. From there, her career evolved rapidly: First cataloging an extensive private collection on California’s Central Coast, then accepting a cross-country move to manage Ralph Lauren’s internationally celebrated fleet. Today, Haddad oversees a growing archive of vehicle history files, documents restoration efforts, and works closely with historians, museums, and former owners to fill in historical gaps. She treats each vehicle as a living artifact, where every past owner, event or modification contributes to the car’s ongoing story. Her attention to detail and deep respect for authenticity ensure these stories are preserved for generations to come. Haddad’s work goes far beyond paperwork — it’s about safeguarding the legacies that define automotive culture. Her journey highlights the impact that programs like those at McPherson College and support from Pebble Beach Company Foundation have on empowering students to find their voice — and their place — in a competitive, tradition-rich industry. McPherson Class of 2011: Kalila Haddad McPherson Class of 2022: Victoria Bruno Victoria Bruno received the Jules “J.” & Sally Heumann Scholarship from Pebble Beach Company Foundation in 2022. A standout student in McPherson College’s renowned Automotive Restoration Program, she carried a double courseload, maintained a 4.0 GPA, and interned at elite restoration shops. Her goal was clear: To become a highly regarded vintage Ferrari mechanic in the US. Fast forward to today, and Bruno is not just chasing that dream — she’s living it. Now based in Berkeley, California, she works as a Ferrari mechanic at Patrick Ottis Co., one of the most respected Ferrari restoration shops in the world. Her days are filled with intricate belt services, engine teardowns on rare classics and meticulous attention to the kind of details that elevate restorations to “Pebble standard.” Her road to Ottis’s shop began with a shop visit on the way to her first Pebble Beach Concours, where she not only helped present the first McPherson student-restored car to be accepted — a 1953 Mercedes-Benz 300S Cabriolet that placed second in class — but also shadowjudged in the Ferrari GT class. It was during that weekend that she met Patrick Ottis. Today, Bruno is immersed in the rhythm of high-level restoration at Patrick Ottis Co. while also growing her influence in the wider automotive community. Known online as “MotoriBruno,” she shares her day-to-day life in the shop with thousands of followers across social media platforms, inspiring a new generation of car lovers, mechanics and tradespeople. She is a shining example of how investing in young talent can drive the future of an entire industry.
