17 Photos That Will Make You Want to Visit 17-Mile Drive Right Now

The scenery-saturated 17-Mile Drive in Pebble Beach is stomach-dropping. Coastal cliffs rising from the sea. White sandy beaches kissing the surf. A sea of sand dunes that disappears into a majestic forest full of whimsical cypress and towering pines. Deer graze carefree, birds soar overhead and marine mammals bark from just offshore.

“Land and sea meet splendidly here, with jutting rocks, hanging fog, shrieking gulls and sometimes backstroking sea otters,” observes The Los Angeles Times.

But no description can properly place you on 17-Mile Drive. Here are 17 photos — or 17,000 words — that capture a sliver of the bountiful beauty along 17-Mile Drive:

1. IT’S AN ENCHANTING DRIVE

2. FULL OF TWISTS AND TURNS

3. AND INSPIRING SUNSETS

4. AT TIMES IT CAN FEEL MYSTICAL

The Halocline × Hippo Campus We were driving down the freeway through Monterey, CA trying to figure out what to do for the day when my father mentioned something about “the most beautiful drive in America.” He told us about this small private road near Monterey you could pay to drive on that goes along the coast. I was very sceptical about my father’s claim but we made a split decision and took the exit to check it out. Needless to say it was the best decision during the entire trip. As we went back and forth from being exposed to the coast to being covered by the ancient looking trees with the setting sun shining through, it became clear to me that my father was more than right; this was the most beautiful drive I’d ever been on. #yespebblebeach
