Celebrate Pebble Beach's Centennial

Pebble Beach Golf Links and The Lodge opened in 1919. Since then, the milestones have been many.

The first U.S. Amateur West of the Mississippi. The first concours to feature classic cars. The first U.S. Open at a public course.

The history-making continues in 2019, when Pebble Beach celebrates its Centennial by hosting a sixth U.S. Open, more than any course in the last half-century.

We invite you to celebrate this special year at Pebble Beach Resorts, relive our storied past, and join us as we make new memories for the next 100 years.

Just five years after Pebble Beach Golf Links opened, Samuel F.B. Morse built stables for early residents and visitors. It has since been the backdrop for films, the training grounds for the country's first youth Pony Club and the stage for the U.S. Team Trials ahead of the 1960 Olympics. Read More »

We thought it would be fun to dig into our archives and look back at the history of the press at Pebble Beach: Read More »

Tracking Tiger: Reliving the Greatest U.S. Open Performance Ever
The 2000 U.S. Open has no peer. Tiger Woods did not three-putt all week, while one-putting 34 of the 72 greens. He tied the all-time scoring record at a U.S. Open when nobody else in the field broke par. He also opened the tournament with a 65, the lowest U.S. Open score ever shot at Pebble Beach. Read More »

Celebrate with Us!

Each month at Pebble Beach Resorts, we will celebrate a unique Centennial theme, accompanied by special events:

January

The Centennial Golf Invitational (Jan. 27-30)

Pebble Beach Golf Links was built during the Golden Age of Golf Course Architecture, headling an era when many of the game’s most prestigious venues were created. We are honored to celebrate our Centennial with the venerable clubs that have also lived to see at least 100 years of golf. We salute these clubs with a Centennial Golf Invitational to tee off this special year in our history.

Pebble’s Place in Golf History

February

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (Feb. 4-10)

While celebrities have been visiting Pebble Beach ever since Hotel Del Monte was built in 1880, Bing Crosby established our resort as a home of the stars when he brought a PGA TOUR event that uniquely combined pro golfers and popular celebrities in 1947. As we host 2019’s edition full of NFL quarterbacks, comedians and Hollywood stars, we will also unveil a new Wall of Champions behind the first tee at Pebble Beach.

The History of 17-Mile Drive and the Del Monte Forest

Back in 1881, guests enjoyed 17-Mile Drive and the splendors of Pebble Beach during a day-long horse carriage ride to and from the grand Hotel Del Monte in Monterey. Today the journey is still 17 miles, but it winds exclusively through the enchanting Del Monte Forest and along the spellbinding cliffs and beaches of Pebble Beach. We celebrate the beauty of Pebble Beach, something our founder Samuel F.B. Morse spent his life protecting.

June

The 119 U.S. Open Championship (June 10-16)

For the first 71 U.S. Opens, the championship was only hosted by private clubs. In 1972, Pebble Beach Golf Links became the first public course to host the U.S. Open. It’s safe to say Pebble Beach left its mark on the championship. The U.S. Open returned to Pebble Beach in 2019 for a sixth time, more than any other course in the last 50 years.

Explore Pebble Beach

Pebble Beach has been explored for centuries. Ohlone Indians visited the peaceful Indian Village for its healing powers, and more than 400 years ago, Spanish Explorers discovered the aptly named Spanish Bay (even though they were truly looking for the Monterey Bay). Pebble Beach is a spectacular 5,300-acre sanctuary intersected by more than 40 miles of hiking and equestrian trails, plus aquatic adventures such as kayaking, surfing, standup paddleboarding and more. This summer we celebrate the many things you can see and do in Pebble Beach beyond golf.

The Beaches of Pebble Beach

August

Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance (Aug. 18)

In 1950, a daring road race through Pebble Beach was complemented by a small gathering of collector cars parked behind the 18th green at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Today the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is one of the most respected and revered collector car shows in the world. We celebrate our Centennial year with an unforgettable array of cars from bygone eras, as well as a fascinating display of future concepts.

Celebrating Professional Golf at Pebble Beach

The history of professional golf at Pebble Beach extends beyond the annual AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the opportunity to host a U.S. Open. We also host two more professional events each year: the PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee on the PGA TOUR Champions, and the unique multi-tour TaylorMade Invitational Presented by Dell Technologies. This Centennial, we celebrate our rich tournament history during the 16th playing of the PURE Insurance Championship, and await another milestone: our first U.S. Women’s Open in 2023.

Celebrating Spyglass Hill, Spanish Bay and Del Monte

At a place celebrated as the Golf Capital of the World, you must play more than one round of golf when you visit Pebble Beach. And while a round at Pebble Beach Golf Links is a bucket-list adventure, our younger siblings offer incredible experiences in their own right. Pebble Beach Resorts is proud to offer three golf courses that are ranked among the Top 50 in the Country, plus Del Monte Golf Course, which was the original home of the California State Amateur. Join us as we celebrate the unique history of Spyglass Hill and The Links at Spanish Bay.

Art History Month

Is it surprising that such a beautiful place would inspire beautiful art? Pebble Beach is the sanctuary that Salvador Dali escaped to during World War II, and charming neighbor Carmel-by-the-Sea began as a bohemian village of artists and poets. We celebrate Pebble Beach’s rich tradition of art with intriguing displays throughout the resort.
